Maze of the Week #85 - Chicago Theatre Sign Maze

Maze of the Week #85 is a sign maze of the Chicago Theatre. Built in 1921, this famous theatre continues to operate and hosts all types of performing arts performances. It is located in the Loop area of Chicago and is a part of the U.S. National Register of Historic Places. And of course it has a famous, great looking sign which interested me.

If you plan on visiting here is their website !

The Maze: I went with a full color sign while adding the details of surrounding buildings in black and white. I put the maze in the gold colored border around the sign with the Start and Goal at the bottom. I really like the structure and hope you do too ! And I left out the corporate branding on top.

Maze of the Week #84 - Riverside Museum Maze

Maze of the Week #84 is of the Riverside Museum in Glasgow, Scotland, our first maze from Scotland. Would you believe that this museum is located on a riverside ? It is, the River Clyde. It is a transport museum designed by Zaha Hadid Architects. It is also not the first maze I have made from these architects:

Maze of the Week #54 - Heydar Aliyev Center

The building opened in 2011 and in 2013 it won the prestigious European Museum of the Year Award. You can learn more about the museum here.

YouTube: From the video and everything I have learned about the museum, personally, this is a place that I want to visit !

The Maze: In color. Very easy and I made it quickly because of the simple, minimalistic design.

Maze of the Week #83 - Pro Football Hall of Fame Maze

Maze of the Week #83 takes me to the city of my birth, Canton, Ohio with this maze of the Pro Football Hall of Fame. I have been past this building hundreds of times and had the opportunity to visit a few times. If you get a chance you should plan a visit. And I have also had a chance to meet many hall of famers who are attending the festivities. Really cool.

The Maze: I went with black and white. This is a candidate for coloration at some point.

Case Study#8 - Improving Previous Mazes

Coming next week:

A maze of a museum.

So What Do You Think of Mazes as Art ?

I stumbled upon this article by 538: Americans Disagree On The Definition Of Art. If you don’t want to read it (but you should), here is a summary with some commentary.

  • Americans disagree about Art ? Americans disagree about everything. That’s all my commentary.

  • The post was written based off of a YouGov poll. According to the poll 49% of people considered themselves at least somewhat artistic. Really ? And 85% of them think they are above average drivers. What can a somewhat artistic person make ?

  • In general Americans do not think Modern art is art. A majority of Americans think they can replicate some specific modern works of art, and that means it isn’t art to them.

That brings me to the purpose of this website. Is there such a thing as maze art ? I think there is and one day would like to open a maze museum. I used Starryai to create some possible photos of it, here is one example of what it might look like:

photo of a maze art museum

What I do have a problem with is defining it. Here are my 4 possible definitions from my blog on how to make maze art.

Maze Art - A solvable maze of a subject that is good enough that someone would consider hanging it on the wall as an art piece.

Maze Art - A piece of art that just so happens to contain a solvable maze.

Maze Art - A solvable maze made to look like something that is not a maze, like an object/thing/person/place/landscape.

Maze Art - A solvable maze made to look aesthetically pleasing or interesting and not just to be solved.

What do you think the definition of maze art is ?

Back to the original article. Do readers think they can maze the mazes I make ? I think some of you certainly can. And if you do reach out ! I love to be inspired.

Happy maze-ing !
