Maze of the Week #20 - Cabana Inn Sign Maze

We return to signs for our 20th maze of the year. From Boise, Idaho we have a very interesting and colorful hotel sign from the Cabana Inn. The sign is wonderful but the maze is very simple since I only used the white background for a standard maze construction (and almost a vertical construction).

Some information about Cabana Inn

Located in downtown Boise, Idaho this budget hotel is at the center of all of the cities many attractions. I never thought it would have a video on YouTube, but maybe I shouldn’t be so surprised. And it features the sign !

And before we get to the actual maze, here is a photo of the sign for reference from Jasperdo (flickr).

Coming next week:

Another sign maze, this one from the beach !

Maze of the Week #19 - Fresno Van Ness Avenue Sign Maze

My 19th maze of the week features another sign, this one from California with the Fresno Van Ness Sign.

The maze is a standard construction and uses the structure of the poles to naturally create walls of the maze. This does however mean that the scale of the pathways becomes very small.

Some information about Van Ness Avenue in Fresno

While you can find this on the Local Register of Historic Resources, there is not a lot of information about the sign. I did learn that there is a neon lighting on the sign, but my maze presents the sign during the day so that is not apparent. Also this is considered an entrance “gate” to the avenue.

The maze:

I consider this a full color maze, although it could just as easily be considered in greyscale because it lacks any color.

Coming next week:

A sign maze from the Western part of the US

Maze of the Week #18 - Miles the Monster Maze - Dover International Speedway

It is race season. This week I am featuring a maze of Miles the Monster from Dover International Speedway in Dover Delaware. The maze construction is a draw and cut. I originally made this maze in black and white (with the exception of the red eyes), but went back and made a a color version.

Some information about Miles the Monster

Built in 2008, Miles is the mascot of Dover International Speedway. It is 46 feet high and made of fiberglass. He holds a car in his raised right hand (and it changes). According to Roadside America: “Miles' circular base is lined with granite plaques paying tribute to the winners of every Dover NASCAR race since the track opened in 1969. The base is so large that it has room for winners until 2035.”

Here is an old video that shows the construction of Miles the Monster.

Coming next week:

A large sign (but a small sign maze).

Maze of the Week #17 - Tough Guy Lanes Sign Maze

Our 17th maze of the week features our second bowling alley sign maze. Bowling alleys really do have some great looking signs and I love to make them into mazes. From Pocatello, Idaho we have the Tough Guy Lanes Sign Maze. The maze construction is free drawn. Because the spacing and empty spaces on the sign are small this maze is less difficult than most featured mazes.

Some information about Tough Guy Lanes

What a great name for a bowling alley. Located at 403 E Lewis St, in Pocatello, Idaho, this bowling alley seems like a great place to knock down some pins. With a restaurant, lounge, birthday party packages, and tons of leagues to join, if I am ever in Pocatello, I will be stopping by !

My video to accompany this maze unfortunately shows some difficult times for the business during the covid outbreak, but you do get to see the inside and outside of the bowling alley, including the wonderful sign.
