I write movie reviews on maze movies, so why is Elvis included ? Well it contains a maze scene ! This biopic film about Elvis is told from the point of view of his longtime manager Colonel Tom Parker. About 29 minutes into the film they meet for the first time in a mirror maze in a carnival funhouse when Elvis gets lost. This starts the relationship that defines the movie. Both Tom Hanks and Austin Butler are great in their roles. It is a story everyone can enjoy and will make you want to listen to Elvis music and catch some of those classic Elvis movies when you catch them flipping channels. I recommend this movie !

I give it a 7.3/10.

Navigating the Labyrinth: A Complete Guide to Maze Movies

I have written extensively on movies that contain mazes and labyrinths, currently 85+ total movies, but this number is sure to grow. You can peruse every maze movie I have reviewed on my maze movie page. I have given you a post about what I believe are the best maze movies and the worst maze movies with special consideration to bad horror movies and maze movies for kids. I have researched and found the best maze movie posters.

Want to know which of these movies are the best ?

The 10 best maze movie posters ?

The 5 best maze movies for kids ?

The 10 best maze horror movies ?

The 5 worst maze movies to avoid ?

So why do I need another post about maze and labyrinth movies? Well I want to sort and summarize the movies into types of movies. You may like a particular type of movie - horror, crime, mystery, action and so this will help you find your lane. And what is the maze scene that gets the movie on the list to begin with ?

So I made a Google Sheet to sort and classify the movies. The columns allow you to sort and filter for the following data points: Name of movie, year released, maze scene, Rating, Movie Type, Sub-genre, Language, Movie length, IMDB rating, Worldwide box office, and notable stars in the movie.

Let’s say you want to know what movies are good for kids, you can sort by rating and here is what you find:

Maze Movies Rated G

Alice in Wonderland (1951 - G)

Muppets from Space (1999 - G)

Maze Movies Rated PG or TV - PG, or approved

Flowers for Algernon (2000 - TV-PG)

How to Train your Dragon (2010 - PG)

Labyrinth (1986 - PG)

The Man with the Golden Gun (1974 - PG)

Mazes and Monsters (1982 - PG)

Smurfs: The Lost Village (2017 - PG)

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (2022 - PG)

Tales from the Crypt (1972 - PG)

Time Bandits (1981 - PG)

The Maze (1955 - approved)

Another example would be what are the mostly highly rated maze movies ?

Inception - 8.8

The Shining - 8.4

Pan’s Labyrinth - 8.2

How to Train Your Dragon - 8.1

Prisoners - 8.1

That is a wonderful list of movies to watch ! Sort however you want. As I watch new maze movies the list will grow !

Here is the link to the sheet, which I will also add to the movie page.

Theatre of Blood (1973) Movie Review

Comedy horror films are very hit and miss for me. Too funny can ruin the horror and not funny enough means there are sections of the film that seem flat. For me this movie missed the mark vs. the critical reception. When I researched the movie after the fact I learned about the ‘comedy’ aspect which I never would have guessed after watching the film. As far as mazes go, this is a maze movie only because of a scene where there is prominently displayed maze and labyrinth artwork in the background. This is not the best shot, but it is hard to miss !

Overall, Vincent Price does a great job acting in the movie, but it missed the mark for me.

I give it a 6.1/10.

Long Day's Journey Into Night (2018) Movie Review

Long Day's Journey into Night movie poster

I am a big fan of Film Noir so any movie that has that genre is on my watchlist. When I read about this movie I noticed it mentioned getting lost in a labyrinth and I knew I had to watch it. Now the scene where this happens, our main character falls asleep in a movie theater and wakes up (or is dreaming?) on a railway track in an abandoned mine that is maze-like. Eventually he finds a young boy who leads him out. A bit of a letdown, but the overall movie, mood, acting is still good.

I give it a 6/10.
