5 of the World's Largest Winter Mazes

I wanted to feature 5 wonderful Winter mazes that are here for the Holidays ! 4 of them are the largest of it’s type (with an asterix), and are made as destination attractions to celebrate the holidays. It includes a set of 3 from around the USA, a festival in Minnesota, a festival in Washington, an event in Pittsburgh, while the last takes us overseas to Poland.

The first mazes are the Largest Christmas Light Maze(s) in the world, created by Enchant. This year Enchant has 3 locations: San Jose, CA; Seattle, WA; and Las Vegas, NV. Each location features winter fun, including the featured light maze, an ice skating rink and a Christmas market along with other activities (Santa?) and days with special events. You can check the calendar and buy tickets on the Enchant website. This experience moves around the country each year, so you may have seen it near you in the past (or have it coming to a large city near you in the future). Here is a video from the Enchant YouTube channel showing the event ! It looks like a fun night out with an immersive Christmas experience.

And the second Winter maze I wanted to bring to your attention comes from Poland, the World’s Largest Ice Maze (for now) located in Snowlandia in Zakopane. I had written about it previously as one of the 5 ice and snow mazes I found around the world: You Won't Believe these Ice and Snow Mazes ! The maze is outstanding, and seeing all of the intricate carvings in the snow is also well worth a visit with views of the beautiful Tatra Mountains ! The maze is listed as over 3000 square meters, or the size of about 7 basketball courts.

And you may have noticed the “for now” I added onto the Ice Maze at Snowlandia. That is because on January 10th, the record might be broken at the Minnesota Ice Festival in Eagan, MN. They will be attempting to make the break the current record and will have Guinness on hand (the company/book not the drink) to check it. Since it is not yet built and you never know about the weather, we will have to wait to see who holds the ice maze crown. Tickets for the event are on sale now and it includes the maze, skating, slides, food trucks, ice bars and plenty of ice sculptures. Here is a video showing the previous years maze:

But wait, we have another, coming to us from Shelton, Washington ! Let’s take a look at Christmastown and their Winter maze !

The world record for most Christmas Trees in one location (set in 2019) keeps getting bigger each year. And, it just so happens those Christmas trees are made into a maze ! This year a total of 900 trees became a maze. The great thing about the maze is the dead ends might lead you to Santa, places to play or selfie spots. But let’s be honest a dead end with Santa is not really a dead end ! Here is a link to the website and the maze page specifically. Check out this wonderful video of the event and maze !

Although not a record holder, Pittsburgh celebrates the New Year with it’s 31st annual First Night celebration which includes fireworks, a parade, puppets, dancing and musical entertainment to highlight the festivities. But the reason I share it with you here is it will also contain an ice maze this year that pays tribute to the state of Pennsylvania ! The maze is being made (with chainsaws!) by Ice Creations and you can see it being made in this YouTube video starting at about 1:20.

So did these mazes make your bucket list ? Wishing you Happy and Healthy Holidays and hoping you can enjoy an a-maze-ing adventure like these!

My 2024 Year in Review

This is my year end review for the website to reflect on what I accomplished for the year. I do this post each year and I keep the previous years data.…so 6 years of progress !! Here are my other posts about the year:

2021: 640 - daily mazes with some Spanish language variations

2020: 366 - daily mazes

So overall there were 106 mazes this year with the variations. I like the weekly maze vs. the daily maze and don’t see myself ever going back !

Blog Posts:

2021: 291 (207 remain on the site)

2020: 102 (84 remain on the site)

2019: 26 (12 remain on the site)

If you want to read the blog posts that remain, check out my blog index. I anticipate less blog posts in 2025 as I reduce my writing schedule to focus on creating mazes ! But 970 blog posts about mazes and labyrinths since the website started is a lot !

Name Mazes Made

2024: 220

2023: 104

2022: 13

Since 2021 I have only been doing doing maze name requests when they were submitted. I had many teachers reach out for classrooms full of unique names ! I think I rank well for this on many search engines so I get a lot of maze name traffic !

Website Traffic growth:

2024: + 33% LY

2023: + 36% LY

2022: + 47% LY

2021: + 242% LY

2020: +1000% PL

2019: **

And the bigger you get the harder it is to grow even larger in the future. Unless SEO suddenly likes me (or doesn’t). I made some changes to the site in October. Let’s see if they help grow the site in 2025 !

Different countries visiting the site:

2024: 200 according to Google analytics. Depending on how you count the # of countries, that means just about every country. Except North Korea….and I will need to research to see if anyone else is missing.

2023: 169 - I changed how I track this and think the 100 below might have been inaccurate. Out of 195 or so depending on the list you look at.

2022: 100

2021: 100

2020: 99

2019: 20

YouTube Views:

2024: 1,972

2023: 2,245

2022: 303

2021: 264

The channel is not doing well. I have no plans for videos in 2025 unless I figure out a new format that might work !

YouTube Subscribers:

2024: 31

2023: 17

2022: 6

2021: 3

Considering the numbers of videos on the channel this is terrible.

Pinterest:

I have no idea how to quantify this, but I have a Pinterest Page. It is small. I don’t do much there. Here is my traffic from there to my site:

2024: 1,091 + 343% LY

2023: 318

Large growth as a percent, but a small part of the traffic to the site. I am sure I will focus on this in 2025 for one good week at least….

So that is my year in review. I have a plan for 2025 which is one of my next blog posts. Expect more mazes that hopefully people like !
